For new players who want a fully modern game go for Yakuza 7 LAD or if you want to play a few of them start with 0. Yakuza 3 needed a full Kiwami rebuild, but that's not going to happen. Yakuza 3 I don't recommend at all it's clunky, the first part is slow and it's barely "remastered" in any way other than some textures. For new players start with y0 and go through them in order. That and the overwhelming 4 playable characters and convoluted confusing story. I would not recommend this as a stand alone experience, too much dependence and interlinking story wise with the previous games, you'd have to watch summaries of the past games to get a lot of it. But Kiryu is in every yakuza game besides the completely new Yakuza 7 LAD. The cop character is just this installment only and has no real connection to other yakuza games like all the other ones, he could have been cut from this or even just cut Kiryu's involvement for just 3 players for a more focused story. Kiryu's part seems to be tacked on tbh, and for some guy who wants out of the Yakuza he sure seems to be always concerned with his old clan way too much. Yakuza 5 has 5 maps with 5 playable characters. I think with 4 playable characters they should have included at least one more map like Okinawa or Sotenbori. For this you are only getting the one map, Kamurocho, but it's expanded to include underground and some small rooftop play. I got pretty tired of the random street battles and really wish there was a way to just turn those off so I can focus on collectible hunting and not have to actively try to avoid them while playing the main and sub stories. Graphically it's definitely an old game even remastered so you could play this on a potato and get the full graphics experience, 4k dsr is not out of the question for any modern gpu and certainly 2k dsr, the game's locked to 60 max. The story can get a little convoluted and too much nonsensical video game logic infested but it's going to be highly entertaining for sure.
There are about 65 substories total with about 15 for each character. The highlight of the substories are the Akiyama Hana-Chan loan sharking stories and the Saijima karate dojo training.
